Job title:                      Qualitative Researcher

Work Location:           Eshowe – KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa

Duration:                     3 months

Start date:                   January 2023

Reports to:                  Project Medical Referent

Assist Doctors Without Borders study team in understanding the acceptability of Community sites and their services by taking the lead in the implementation of the qualitative aspect of the Luyanda study.
  • Together with the research team, plan the qualitative component of the research including identification of community members to be interviewed (Purposively selected sample)
  • Perform in-depth interviews in the language participants prefer (Mainly English and isiZulu)
  • Assist with translation and transcription (one-step process) including quality assurance
  • Perform participant observation in accordance with the observation guide
  • In collaboration with the qualitative research advisor, adapt topic guide as needed, identify codes and emerging themes in transcripts and conduct thematic analysis
–        Education-University degree in social science (including anthropology, social-anthropology or sociology), Bachelor of Arts or similar
–        Experience   -Previous work experience or qualitative research is essential medical anthropology/socio-anthropology, including planning data collection and conducting interviews-Experience in developing countries and experience with MSF or any other organization in public health is highly recommended.-Fluent in English and Isizulu.
